Beyond Bars Program

When former class members leave prison, Truth Be Told encourages the women to stay involved and stay connected to the community.  We ask them to connect with us within two weeks of their release and then there is a follow-up phone call. This is a time for us to ask them about how they are doing and to reengage the tools they have been introduced to.  In their packet there is information about how they can stay involved, as well as a TRUTH bracelet and a magnet, both are mementos to remind them of the work they did to create a healthy community.

Through the program called Beyond Bars we track their progress and offer them support in the following ways:

  • Follow-up phone calls
  • Private group connection through social media.
  • Invitations to speak at special events and/or to write for our TBT Blog.
  • An incentive plan to celebrate their lengths of freedom, and for staying in touch.
  • Our goal is to offer a yearly weekend reunion, and the women can bring their children, so that we can strengthen the communication, the community, and family reunification.

The Beyond Bars Program involves handling correspondence, conversing on the telephone, networking, and gathering information about resources. To find out about volunteering to help administer this program, go to Be Involved.
